February is just around the corner and with it comes Valentine’s day! So I’ve put together a set of facebook cover images for you. The images are based on a festive background and those little candy hearts. There are four styles and two color palettes. Enjoy!
The Hearts Background
I’m wasn’t the only designer thinking about Valentine’s day, the folks over at Adobe Tutorialz also were. They put together a great tutorial to make a valentine’s day greeting card, and I borrowed a bit for the background. I did a little variation with the colors, and also included a few more styles of hearts for some fun.
The Candy Hearts
When I think of valentine’s day, I think of those little candy hearts with writing on them. So I wanted to do a similar look for the facebook cover image.
After doing the background in Photoshop CS6, I took the cover image over to Illustrator CS6. To create the heart shape, I used the pen tool making a simple closed shape with two points. Then using the convert anchor point tool I turned the two points into a heart, as shown below. Since I planned to use different settings for the 3D effects, I made copies of the base heart before applying any effects.
To create the 3D look of the hearts, I used the Extrude & Bevel effect (under the 3D menu item). I tweaked the axis a little to get the angles I was looking for. For the extrude depth I used 50pt with a classic bevel of 4pts. I also used the plastic shading. Once I had one heart done, I applied the same settings to other hearts with variation of the axis (just grab the cube shape in the Extrude & Bevel effect and rotate it around).
I wanted a simple font inspired by Arial, but with a little creativity. I selected the Nexa Bold font and gave it a slight rotation to match that of the individual hearts. I set the colors for the text on the hearts to a very light version of the heart color itself, giving the look of a white stamp which wasn’t completely opaque.
For the “Happy Valentine’s Day” text I used one of my favorites, Great Vibes. I did apply a slight narrowing to the font so that it would fit nicely into the space I allocated for it.
Final Valentine’s Day Facebook Cover
Here is a preview of the entire set! The download link is at the bottom of the article.
Since not everyone loves red & purple, I also did an alternate color scheme with blue & green.
Please download and enjoy. Also, we’d love it if you would share with your friends by tweeting or liking this post!
